Used equipment

I think it’s funny how when growing at the home became legal in many states, people thought they would just grow their own! I admit I was one of them. This is the funny part! Then, when people spent tons of money on high tech equipment designed to yield maximum results with no special skills they realized it wasn’t that easy and it was a challenge. Now, as I page through Marketplace I see tons of growing equipment for sale with the sellers stating they only used it once. The problem is in most cases they want to recover their investment entirely! So I have a question, what is a fair price for an undocumented grow light? No reciept, just the sellers words. 30% - 50% - 75%?

Depends how it item looks - you should know from a picture if that’s even close to been true. I see it with other stuff where they say used once but looks like they were ridden hard and put away wet. 😂 also, if you have enough information I look up how old that version of that thing. That also, is a tell. if it was put out 5 years or more ago, I suspect to the once use.

Take a par meter with you, plug the thing in, take a reading and see how close it is to what the manufactures chart says. If it's within 10% 60-75% is fair, if it's less than 10% of original output 50% or less it's current new price.

It's crazy for used equipment in MN. I would hate to be selling. Ive seen people coming in from other states to sell used equipment.

@Mo Harester helped me with the meter advice and I am grateful.

I've been watching some lights for weeks waiting to low ball though. Just hoping to snag something nice for cheap. The equipment doesnt seem to be selling well here.
I think I’m gonna invest in a light meter and get off this Photone app on my IPhone. I did check the app against a meter I borrowed and it was close. Problem is they can get quite expensive for a higher end model. Let me know if you find a deal out there. Maybe Mo can recommend a version that is worthy both $$ & effective.

If your looking for a quality meter that has a cord with an external sensor look at the photobio at about $150-$170 generally, Apogee is the best, they are also like $600, but if your not using it for literally everything it offers besides setting the intensity at you canopy it's overkill. The one that's like $60 that connects to the phone, and the one that's handheld for $85 it's black and looks like a cyclopse almost is good enough for 99% of people but if you want quality of life and the ability to put the sensor on like a selfie stick or something so you can stand back up out from under the light the photobio is definitely worth it but even it's overkill for most folks.

Definitely not as cheap as one would hope to snag a deal on anyway.
